Programs and Services: Language Program: Our mission is to implement a program designed to restore the Yurok
language to the status of a living flourishing language with speakers
of all levels. Eligibility: Any community member having the desire to learn the Yurok Language. Contact Child Care: Our goal is to provide quality child care opportunities for tribal member children. The two program options offered are “center base” and “voucher.” The type of program that is available depends on the parents’ preference and the funding sources available to support the program. Eligibility: Serves Native American families who are employed or attending school. Family must meet income eligibility guidelines. Contact: Head Start: The over all goal of Yurok Tribe head start Program is to bring out a greater degree of social competence in children’s’ everyday life. Social competence involves intellectual development, physical and mental health, and nutritional needs. Eligibility: Children ages 2.9 to 5 years of age (depending on birth date). Lower income families are given priority. Contact Johnson O’Malley The JOM program serves Yurok tribal member ages 3-18. All program activities promote education as well as perseveration of the Yurok language and culture. The purpose of the JOM program is to provide supplemental educational support services to tribal member students to help them successfully graduate from the 12th grade and obtain a high school diploma. Student services include tutoring, cultural/language enrichment activities, student sponsorship, and achievement recognition. Eligibility: Students must be 3 to 18 years of age and a Yurok Tribal member. Contact JOM Site Supervisor East Area JOM Site Supervisor South Area Higher Education/AVT: The purpose of the higher education/AVT Program is to support and promote
Tribal members who want to further their education and job skills. Eligibility: Students must be a Yurok Tribal member and attending an accredited institution of higher learning. Contact Hoopa/Yurok Vocational Rehabilitation Program: This program Provides services to assist individuals with disabilities to obtain employment. This program is a cooperative program between the Hoopa and Yurok Tribes. Eligibility: Program participants must have a doctor certified disability. Contact John Lynch for additional information. Contact Hyvtep: The Hoopa-Yurok Vocational and technical Education-program is a cooperative effort between the Yurok Tribe, the Hoopa tribe, College of the red woods and the local business community. The program provides services that enable students to pursue their educational goals, as well as preparing students for high skilled, high wage jobs. Eligibility: Students must be a member of a federally recognized tribe and attending College of the Redwoods. Contact
